Yunling
A quiet Tibetan town on the upper Mekong, Yunling is a good place to buy provisions if heading south. A few simple restaurants in town are the last for some distance to the south, and are definitely worth patronising if you are cycling.
Environment
Geography and Climate
Set only slightly above the Mekong on its eastern bank, the views to the east and west are dominated by steep cliffs. A picturesque village sits slightly to the north. Following the road up hill leads to Deqin, which lies just off the Mekong in a tributary valley to the north, while heading south along the river through Yanmen, Badi, Yezhi, Tangpu and Baijixun brings you to the turnoff east to Weixi. Continuing southward leads to Baoshan.

Food
Restaurants
A couple of standard low-end restaurants on the eastern side of the road are your best bet for fried dishes and noodles.

Getting In & Out
Bus
Buses regularly ply the road, however there is no bus station or ticketing system so you may not be assured of a seat. Simply wait near the road and flag down a bus heading in the right direction. If you miss out, try the next one!

Bicycle
If heading south, be ware that the thin pass beneath the town marks the start of your head wind! If heading north, this is the beginning of the climb to Deqin and you will want to rest overnight.
