Lancang
Highlights
There is little to see in Lancang itself: a few markets and a statue or two constitute the more interesting urban sites, while a reservoir up the hill provides a man-made, if naturally inspired alternative.
Outside of town, a trip southward to Menglian will let you see a minority culture museum and some temples, and Huimin to the southeast sports an octagonal Bulang minority pagoda. Practicalities
Getting In & Out
Lancang's bus station is centrally located, on the main road that runs from through town from Jinghong to Lincang.
North-West The road to Lincang is in terrible condition and, while scenic, is a lengthy ordeal. It continues west to Ruili, as well as north to Baoshan and Dali. South-East The earliest service to Jinghong is 6:30AM, tickets are 41元. The trip takes about five and a half hours due to the terrible road conditions. South Regular local services run south along an excellent, newly paved road to Menglian, and onwards to Meng'a at the Burmese border. 13元 and ninety minutes will get you to Menglian, while going all the way to Meng'a takes twice as long. Accomodation
Conveniently located, the Traffic Hotel at the bus station provides clean (if noisy) rooms with two single beds for 60元 per night, while similar and simpler options exist further afield. The best area to search for budget options is the east side of Donglang Lu (东朗路), opposite the market.
